Chapter 7

Chapter 7 bankruptcy wipes out all of your debts, except in some limited cases.  Debts wiped out may include credit cards, bank loans, medical bills, utility bills, and business debts.  You likely will not lose any property or possessions if you file for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.

Chapter 13

In Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you will make payments for 3 to 5 years, based on your income level.  At the end of this period, your remaining unpaid debts will be wiped out, except in some limited cases.  Chapter 13 will provide you the opportunity to catch up, get current, and to keep your house and car.  Most people who file Chapter 13 do not lose anything they own.
